This is a research-driven postdoctoral opportunity to investigate computational and applied methods for handling uncertainty in smart cities, infrastructure, and urban systems. The role includes leading independent projects, collaborating across NYUAD’s interdisciplinary themes such as Mobility and Fairness, and driving theoretical innovations grounded in real-world applications. Applicants should be capable of translating between foundational research and applied scenarios.Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research on computational systems for uncertainty modeling
- Lead or co-lead projects in probabilistic modeling, risk analysis, or robust decision-making in urban data contexts
- Collaborate with faculty and researchers working on themes like mobility, infrastructure, fairness, and sustainability
- Translate urban system applications into foundational computational challenges and vice versa
- Prepare and submit high-impact publications and research reports
- Present findings at academic conferences and workshops
- Contribute to grant writing and research dissemination efforts
- Mentor students and assist in developing the CITIES research agenda
Job Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: robust optimization, probabilistic systems, deep learning for decision-making, or uncertainty-aware modeling
- Strong publication record or dissertation in a related computational area
- Ability to lead a research agenda and work both independently and in interdisciplinary teams
- Interest in developing applications that address real-world urban challenges
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in interdisciplinary or applied computational research settings
- Familiarity with urban data, networked systems, or city planning analytics
- Proficiency in high-performance computing and data systems
- Strong communication skills and interest in stakeholder collaboration
